modern = ?

Modern does not alienate culture, tradition and heritage. It should actually enhance it. Develop it. Make it even more richer than what our ancestors has left us. And it should not be seen as westernizing it, but it should be seen as making it more relevant to today's world in order for the tradition to live on.

I found this really great video of a Japanese show of traditional culture mixed with modern high technology. "Takizawa in Enbujou", a show and performer I really want to see.

Indonesia is rich in culture and heritage, we need to ensure that it stays alive for generations to come. Therefore, we need to continuously keep it relevant and interesting...like this.

If you can find the complete 2 hours DVD, please buy and watch it! It is really good.

MythBusters : Adam : Jamie : Kari : Grant : Tory : Discovery Channel

MythBusters : Adam : Jamie : Kari : Grant : Tory : Discovery Channel

I just found out that you can actually write to them about a myth that we would like them to bust.

Well, I have a few myths but the problem is that I don't know or I have difficulties expressing it in English. It's an Indonesian thingy!

Myths I would really want them to check and re-check:

- "Masuk angin": is there even such thing?

- A guys shoe size determine how big his thing is!

- Chinese/Japs man have (s) thingy! (I really need to know this one..hahaha)

- If you wear green at "Pelabuhan Ratu", you will be taken by Nyai Roro Kidul (scary but really want them to proof it!)

- "Kerokan" (what's the English word for this?), does it really get rid of "masuk angin"?

See, difficult to explain, right?!? Do you have any myths you would like them to check it out? Just visit their site at above address and write to them. Who knows it gets published on Discovery Channel!

Anyone with access of the above..please contact me urgently!! Thank you all...

a mixed feeling.

The doctor finally came to a conclusion that my dads prostate needs to be operated. Soon.

For the very first time in my life, I am scared. Scared of losing him. What would I do without him? What would I be without him? He has always saved me. He has always been there. My safe zone. The person who had shaped me to the person I am today.
I was my dads little girl till I'm about 20 years old. That year I remember, was the last time I thought of him as "the god", for me. That particular year, I discovered his imperfection which completely changed the way I see and feel about him. From that time onwards, until today, I have a problem trusting someone, especially men. He made me a solitaire. I blamed it on him till the morning my mom woke me up to tell me that we had to take him to the hospital.

Now I remember...what would I do without him. I am scared. I want him to always be there for me. If not him, who else? Who would love me..take care of me unconditionally? - no one.
I am 35 today and I have to stop being a child and selfish. Now I realise that I have actually never been independent. There's always a good reason behind every incident in our life. This is one of them, be ready to be thankful for whatever goodness God will give me, as I know it will make me a better person for this life and after.

I love you dad..for who you are. You are and will always be my number 1 hero!

Your daughter..Lia.

Asia21 Singapore, 5 - 7 October 2007

DAY 1

Shangri-la Hotel Singapore.
New members...old members...it feels great and even warmer than before as some of us knew each other from Korea last year.
We have Butet Manurung in the Indonesia delegation - "I'm her fan" - she is beyond words one of the greatest person alive. She gave up everything to live and teach kids in the jungle. I personally still can't imagine that...and how humble she is about it. I love this woman!!

DAY 2
Let's get serious. Indonesian delegation - me and Sandi Uno..lobbying for Bam Aquino to be one of the key speakers for the Indonesia Chapter launch. Talking about micro financing. He accepted! - cool!

Then at night after dinner at Botanical Garden, we went clubbing! At Arts and Ministry of Sound!!

DAY 3
Goodbye time...hope to see you all again! keep in touch...

the road to Asia 21 Indonesia Chapter

Jakarta, 8 October 2007 - the Indonesia delegation gathered at Bunga Rampai Restaurant with Jamie Metzl and had the first official discussion on Jakarta Chapter formation. Present was 1st and 2ND badge including fellow, Andru Subowo. It was an interesting meeting indeed.
We are all committed to form the chapter. Personally, I know that this is not a hangover! We have been talking about it for the past one year, and since now we have more people, I guess it's only the right thing to do.
Proposed board:
- Chairman: Sandi Uno
- Co-Chairman: Andru Subowo
- Treasury: Daniel Budiman
Board of advisory should be Asia Society's International Council from Indonesia.
Well, let see how it all goes. I hope no hassle or unnecessary bureaucracy as we are the new generation of Indonesia. We should talk less and do more. And be practical.
